Early summer, you odd duck. What's going on? Rainy and 80, then breezy and 60, then sunny and 70? It isn't time to shed layers just yet, which is why I bring you this week's edition of Personal Shopper: the bright summer blazer.
Ranging from saturated popsicle hues to muted florals, a bright blazer is the perfect little cover-up for over air-conditioned offices, chillier evenings or just those rude sub-70 days. A few shopping tips:
- Mind your lining. Don't go for anything that is too delicate (silk) or stifling (polyester) for a little summer sweatin' (just embrace your shvitzing and life will be so much easier). A good cotton lining would be ideal!
- Consider color. What makes sense with what you own? I have two schools of thought on this matter. Color Thought A: Buy like-colors and shop analogously; if you wear a lot of blues in the summer, choose something in that family or the color families right next door (green or purple). Color Thought B: Buy the opposite of what you wear! If you are my blue-lover, maybe you should consider a pale orange or yellow! This is a great season to get crazy with opposing colors.
- Proportion matters! Take into consideration your body type as well as the silhouettes you wear in the summer. You want to find something that flatters your figure and sits well over your dresses or shorts or whatever it is you don in the should-be-hot-but-it's-not-quite weeks.
Good luck to you, dear reader, in navigating these silly weather mood swings with ease and panache!
